About the Foundation
To follow John Michael's lead…“Let’s Make a Memory!”
The John Michael Pierce Foundation was created to honor John Michael and to continue his legacy of living life to the fullest despite being dealt a cancer diagnosis at 24 years old.
The foundation's mission is to raise awareness in young adults about the early signs and symptoms of esophageal cancer. Esophageal cancer is on the rise, surging over 700% in the past four decades. Since the symptoms don't seem significant, most people discover it at a late stage which limits treatment success.
The Internal Revenue Service has designated the foundation a 501 (c)(3) charity. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
While the great majority of the donations will be used to raise awareness of the early detection of esophageal cancer, the foundation will also make annual donations to the following organizations that John Michael cared so passionately about:
The Robert E. Reed GI Oncology Research Foundation John Michael loved The Reed Foundation. A donation in his name will be made to assist with the personal help they offer with patient care and research of GI cancers like his. They are there for the individuals and families as they navigate their cancer journeys.
Highlands College John Michael had a passion for Church of the Highlands and Highlands College. He faced this terminal illness with such a strong faith supported by the church and his Small Group brothers. His example on this journey impacted so many to evaluate their own faith. Life changing decisions were made to develop a relationship with Jesus because of John Michael. A donation in his name will go toward an annual scholarship to assist a ministry student working to have the same impact he did.
Entrepreneurship The John Michael Pierce Entrepreneurial Fund has been established to honor and continue John Michael's legacy as a fun loving, entrepreneurial and impactful person.
